Barcode Label Printers - Buying Advice
Colour or Black/White
If you wish to print simple black and white labels, then choose
from our range of Direct Thermal or Thermal Transfer barcode label
printers. Even on the thermal printer, you can incorporate different
fonts and font sizes, logos, graphics and barcodes to produce nice
looking labels. For colour label printing, take a look at our Primera
and VIPColor range of colour inkjet label printers.
Label Width
The width of your widest label will determine which barcode label
printer will be suitable for you. The entry-level barcode label
printers, such as the Zebra LP2824 and Zebra TLP2824 support a maximum
2.2" width (approx. 56mm). Some of the heavy duty barcode label
printers such as the Zebra ZM600 can support media upto 6"
width.
Label Printing Volumes
If you are printing a few dozen labels per day, then the entry level
barcode label printers such as the Zebra LP2824 and LP2844 are appropriate
choices. For higher volumes of several hundred labels per day, you
should consider more heavy duty machines such as the Datamax I4208
or I4308. For large volume or continuous printing, the Zebra ZM600
barcode label printer is a recommend industrial-strength label printer.
Drivers & Software
Most barcode label printers are provided with drivers for the popular
versions of MS-Windows, with some also supporting other operating
systems. Check that your chosen barcode label printer supports your
target operating system.
Many of the barcode label printers are bundled with design and
print application software which lets you design your own custom
labels with text, logos, graphics and barcodes as required. You
may also use other software applications - remember to check compatibility
first.
We can also supply advanced label design and database Label
Software to print barcode labels or any other type of label.
Label Printer Interfaces
Barcode label printers can come with either USB, Serial, Parallel,
or Ethernet interfaces or a combination of these. Remember to check
the available ports on your computer when choosing a printer interface.
Media
Most barcode label printers will use standard paper labels. Some
of the more advanced labels will support special finishes such as
semi-gloss, gloss and polypropylene. Check the printer specification
if you will be using any special media.
See our Labels section for a full range
of standard size thermal and direct-thermal labels.
