Primemark's cash handling range of products generally fall
into 4 categories:-
1. Coin Counters
Coin counters come in 2 types. Those that count coins by
weight (using a precision weighing scale) such as the B218
and those that count coins by mechanically counting the
coins. They expect the coins to be pre-sorted into the different
denominations. For example, if you are counting mixed coins,
they will expect you to have already sorted out and separated
the £1 coins, 50p coins, 20p coins and so on. (see
next category for sorting mixed coins).
These coin counting machines are ideally suited to retail
environments where coins are already pre-sorted in the till
compartments or kiosk machine boxes. When choosing a coin
counting machine, check the specification to make sure the
equipment is compatible with the required currency or currencies
- GBP £Sterling, Euro, US Dollars and/or any other
currency you may require.
Some coin counting machines will allow loose coins be placed
on a tray or in a special bucket and some require them to
be bagged. The mechanical machines include a hopper for
the coins to be poured into. On many of these coin counters
you can continually pour in more coins while it is counting
thereby increasing throughput rates. When choosing a coin
counter, take into account the volume of coins you will
be counting and check the required counting machine has
the capacity to handle your required coin volumes at the
desired speed.
Some weighing-type coin counters, such as the Safescan
6100, will also weigh bank notes serving a dual purpose.
It is sometimes more cost effective to purchase several
lower-cost machines, like the affordable 1200
Coin Sorter & Counter, to work simultaneously, than
to purchase a very expensive machine if your volume does
not justify it. On the other hand, if you do process large
amounts of cash, a high-spec machine will pay for itself
very quickly in terms of speed, accuracy and reduced staff
costs.
If you operate outdoors, such as in a car park, then a
high specification coin counter will be able to deal with
wet coins.
2. Coin Sorters & Counters
Coin sorting machines are designed for mixed coins
and they will first sort and then count the coins. Some
coin sorters can be setup to also batch the coins into pre-defined
amounts. For example, it can bag £20 of £1 coins,
£50 of 50p coins and so on.
Coin sorting machines vary according to hopper capacity
and sorting speed. The greater the capacity and speed, generally
the more expensive the coin sorting equipment. Some money
counting machines will count only the quantity of coins.
Others will also count the value too. The figures can either
be displayed on an LCD screen or, on some machines, output
to an optional printer or PC interface.
The better quality coin sorters will filter out foreign
coins and damaged coins very effectively, handle wet or
stuck together coins, as well as handle large volumes reliably
without jamming, missing or incorrectly sorting.
3. Note Counters
Note counters are available in 2 types:
(1) Friction Note Counters which count through the notes
mechanically and (1) Precision Weighing Scales which count
notes by weight.
Basic note counters will count notes of the same denomination,
either by quantity or by value. They will not handle mixed
notes. ie. You cannot put in £10, £20 and £50
notes together (although some advanced machines will detect
inconsistent denominations in the same batch).
The friction counting machines are available in a variety
of speeds (measured in notes per minute), with some offering
advanced security features including Ultraviolet (UV) mark
detection, magnetic ink (MG) detection, metal thread (MT)
detection and size detection. The better quality note counting
machines will also cope with folded notes, half notes or
notes stuck together.
Many note counting machines will handle all currencies,
others will be designed with advanced features to handle
specific currencies. There is a big difference in machine
quality and reliability so, if you are counting large amounts
of cash frequently, avoid the cheaper banknote counters
which will cause jamming and reliability problems in the
long run forcing you to manually re-check notes each time.
4. Mixed Value Note Counters
A mixed value note counter is a more sophisticated
note counting machine which allows different denominations
to be counted in the same run. Some of the more sophisticated
machines will also sort the banknotes and reject suspicious
notes. Advanced machines will provide facilities to orient
and face all notes the same way.
For mixed value note counters, see the CTCoin Dolphin 530
and Eagle 1000 mixed value machines as well as the De La
Rue banknote counters.
