Primemark supplies a comprehensive mobile computing data capture range. These are suited for field use in retail, medical, market-research, utility and scientific applications as well as for use in warehouses, factories and other industrial environments. Vehicle-mounted data collection units are also available.

Our range includes all the popular PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) and PDT (Portable Data-collection Terminal) models with integrated barcode scanners from Symbol, Datalogic, Opticon, Intermec, Aceeca, Metrologic and other top manufacturers.

Application Software: Your mobile computer will require Application Software to allow you to capture and process barcodes and key-entered data. Please read our notes below to help you consider the software options when choosing your unit.

Mobile computers are referred to in a range of terms and abbreviations:-
PDT - Portable Data Terminal
PDA - Personal Digital Assistant
RDA - Rugged Digital Assistant

Ruggedised Mobile Computers
Ruggedised mobile computers are much more robust than ordinary office and home-use laptop computers. They are designed to withstand the extremes of temperature that may be experienced in harsh industrial environments as well as outdoors in a range of climates. They are able to cope with vibrations, dust and other pollutants and are also drop-tested. They can also be battery powered for longer durations and/or be designed to operate from a vehicle or fork-lift power source.

Remember:
Mobile computers usually have different RS232 Serial, Parallel or USB interface options as well as wireless options for external peripherals and docking stations/cradles. Please check the specification when ordering. Some products may include the terminal only, so please remember to specify/purchase any required cradle, charger and cables to make full use of your mobile computer.

Application Software:
Application software allows you to define the menu operation of your data collection unit, as well as the content of data-entry screens. This can include field names, field parameters (type, length, default values, validation rules and barcode lookup) for the different types of transactions and records that you will process.

Some of the mobile computers include basic software applications for common data capture applications which are ready-to-use. Other PDA's / PDT's may feature a simple Windows based SDK (Software Development Kit) to let you develop and download your application software. Hardware products from some manufacturers do not include any application software and you will need to design and develop your own (or commission an experienced programmer / software developer) using supplied or optional software development kits.

The website of most manufacturers include sample applications and tools which you can download to assist in application development.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CAREFULLY CHECK IF THE REQUIRED APPLICATION SOFTWARE IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR MOBILE COMPUTER UNIT WHEN SELECTING YOUR PRODUCT, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NEED TO DEVELOP YOUR OWN.
