Label types:
Direct Thermal (DT) - These labels are used on
printers with a thermal print head. No ribbon is used.
Thermal Transfer (TT) - These labels are used
on thermal printers which use a wax ribbon.
Plain Paper (PP) - These labels are for impact
(dot-matrix) and inject printers.
Label size measurements are given in millimetres. 1
inch = 25.4 millimeters. Conversion

We will then check for a ready-made label available that
matches (or closely matches) your need and confirm pricing
and delivery timescale. (Usually 14-28 days for initial order).
Custom size and pre-printed labels can also be ordered, although
there will be a one-off setup fee for the initial order.
LABEL ROLLS - BUYING ADVICE
When ordering labels for your label printer, there are usually
a minimum of 4 features you must check to ensure suitability.
We explain these below. Our product profile for each label type/size
will provide the measurements for each of these features - scroll
down to the bottom of each label's profile page for diagrams.
1. Label Type
Labels can be Direct Thermal, Thermal Transfer or Plain Paper.
See top of page for an explanation of each type. If your printer
uses a wax or wax resin ribbon, then you may only use Thermal
Transfer labels. If your printer has a thermal print head (but
does not use ribbons), then you may only use Direct Thermal
ribbons. If your barcode label printer is a dot-matrix or inject
printer which uses ink ribbons or ink cart ridges, then you
will require Plain Paper type labels.
The Zebra LP2824 and LP2844 are Direct Thermal printers.
The Zebra TLP2824 and TLP2844 are Thermal Transfer printers
when used with a ribbon, but may also be operated in Direct
Thermal mode without a ribbon.
2. Core Width
This is the maximum width of the roll (including the left/right
margins, looking face on at the label) that your printer will
physically take. Most printers have their maximum core width
specified in inches, with 2", 4" and 6" being common maximum
widths. The majority of label printers feature adjustability,
so the printer will take all size widths upto its defined maximum.
For example, most 4" Core Width printer will take 2" width label
rolls.
3. Core Diameter
The core is the tube which goes through the centre of the label
roll and is usually made from cardboard or plastic. If your
label printer has a spindle, then the Core Diameter measurement
is very important as it must be the same size as the spindle
in order for the label roll to be loaded. If your printer has
'drop-in' type media loading, then the core size is not relevant
(other than affecting the label quantity capacity).
4. Outer Roll Diameter
This is the outer diameter of the label roll (looking sideways
on). The larger the outer diameter, the more labels will be
on the label roll. if rolls are loaded internally into the printer,
then your label printer will only take rolls upto its maximum
defined size, otherwise the lid on the roll compartment will
not close. Common Core Diameters are 4" and 5".

Additional Considerations when Buying Labels
* Label Colour
As standard, labels are provided in a plain white colour. The
degree of brightness is specified in the product profile. Alternative
colours are also available.
* Label Finish
The standard finish is matt. Alternative types of finish are
also available.
* Label Adhesive
Most of our rolls are provided with a permanent acrylic adhesive
which activates once the label is applied. It is suitable for
application to a range of different materials. Labels with temporary
removable adhesive is also available.
* Label Format
The usual format for our labels is on rolls with 1 label per
row. However, we can also arrange fan-fold labels and multiple
labels per row if required.
* Operating Temperatures
The majority of labels are designed to be suitable for a temperature
range from 0 to 80 degrees. Special freezer labels and labels
designed for extremes of temperature are also available.
* Media Sensors
Gaps between each label are standard. Alternative features such
as black positional marks can be placed on labels to work with
media sensors on printers that allow them to determine the start/end
of each label row.
* Label Perforations
Labels can be provided on a continuous backing or a backing
with perforations.
* Shape
Most of our labels are provided with rounded corners. Labels
with square corners as well as special shapes (eg. jewellery
labels) are also available.
* Pre-printed Labels
If your label requires content which your label printer cannot
print (eg. multiple colours, graphics etc), then we can also
have pre-printed labels made to specification. These rolls can
then be put through your label printer for over-printing the
variable content in a normal black colour.
