General Features of Note Counters
Below is an explanation of the main features that can
be found on Primemark's note counting machines. Please note
that not all features are available on all note counters -
check the product specification of the particular note counting
machine you are intending to purchase or Contact
Us for expert advice.
Note Counter Format
Note Counters from Primemark are generally available in
2 formats:-
- Money Scales
These note counting machines count notes by weight using
a high-precision weighing scale. The notes to be counted
are placed on a tray and the machine displays the quantity
or value of the notes on a display panel. One of the benefits
of using scales over friction note counters is that many
scales also allow coins to be counted, thus providing you
with dual money-counting functionality. The Safescan
6100 is an examples of a money scale.
Due to the precise nature of the weighing equipment, money
scales may require calibrating from time to time. This is
a simple process and instructions are provided in the User
Guide.
- Friction Note Counters
This type of note counting equipment mechanically
counts through the notes. Some note counters provide a batching
facility, so notes can be batched into pre-defined amounts.
The quantity of notes counted is displayed on an LCD display
panel on friction note counters.
Friction note counters, due to their mechanical nature,
must be kept clean and dust-free. They should be kept covered
when not in use and dusted (eg. using a small paintbrush)
occassionally. Common problems are caused by paper clips,
staples, sticky notes and bits of sellatape being trapped
in the mechanisms.
Note Counting Speeds
Note counting scales provide an instant note count value.
Friction note counters use advanced friction feed technology
so, despite counting through the notes mechanically, they
also count extremely fast and provide many additional security
features. Basic note counting machines count at rates from
1000 notes per minute. The more expensive faster note counters
count at speeds in excess of 1500 notes per minute.
On many machines, the counting speed can be adjusted to
provide optimum reliability and accuracy.
Bank Note Format & Error Detection
In most straightforward cases, bank notes will be presented
to you in a straight bundle of new notes. However, in some
cases, bank notes in the bundle may be folded and others
may be stuck together. In some cases, a torn half-note may
also be present. If these instances are not identified,
it can result in the note counting machine jamming or giving
inaccurate results. A machine with error detection featues
for half-note, stuck notes, chain notes and folded-notes
automatically resolves such problems.
If you purchase a low-cost basic note counter without error
detection features then, depending on the format of the
bank notes being counted, you may not always get an accurate
count the first time. Notes will need to be fanned prior
to counting, counted multiple times or verified manually.
If your business depends on fast, accurate counting then
we recommend you only purchase note counting equipment with
error-detection features.
Hopper / Stacker
The hopper is where notes to be counted are initially placed.
Check the product specification for the hopper capacity
to check it meets your requirements.
Counted notes are output into the stacker. Again, check
the product specification for the stacker capacity.
Auto Stop/Start
With this facility, the note counter will automatically
start counting as soon as notes are placed in the hopper.
Note Thickness / Density
Some note counting machines allow the note thickness level
to be adjusted. This is useful for soiled notes as well
as to handle a wider variety of world currencies.
Batching
Batching is a useful facility where you require a large
volume of notes to be grouped into pre-defined batch sizes.
eg. 50 notes, 100 notes etc. The facility allows you to
define the batch size. The note counter will then pause
and alert you when it reaches the batch size, giving you
the opportunity to remove the batch before the machine continues.
Value Counting
Most note counting machines will count the number
of notes. Value counting is an advanced facility which counts
the actual monetary value of the notes. The machine, if
it is designed for specific currencies, will automatically
detect the denomination otherwise you can define the denomination
value at the start of the counting process.
Mixed Note Value Counting
Mixed Note Value Counting is an advanced feature available
on the high end note counting machines, such as the Dolphin
530 and Eagle 1000 series of banknote counters. It allows
notes of different denominations to be counted at the same
time.
This feature is geared to specific currencies, so make
sure the machine you purchase will support mixed value note
counting for your required currency.
Accumulator
The accumulation facility allows the machine to keep a
running total of note counts as you count different batches/denominations
of notes.
Customer Display
All our note counters feature an operator display panel
to view the note count and any error messages. An optional
externally-connected or customer-facing additional display
(available on some models) allows retail customers to also
view the machine count.
Currencies
Most note counters feature generic functionality allowing
them to be used with all currencies. Some note counters
contain features designed for particular currencies, so
those functions will not necessarily work with other currencies.
Check the supported currencies on the product specification
before making your note counter purchase.
Counterfeit Note Detection Features
Primemark's more sophisticated friction note counters provide
a number of fake note detection capabilities. The machines
not only count money quickly, but they will also perform
simultaneous advanced security checks to ensure the notes
are genuine and not counterfeit. The security check is performed
on each individual note at amazing speed.
UltraViolet (UV):
Many currencies such as £Sterling, Euro and US Dollars
feature hidden symbols and/or lettering which is only visible
under good quality UltraViolet light.
Metal Thread (MT):
Many currencies feature a thin metal security thread which
runs through the inner layer of the paper. In some currencies,
the thread also glows under ultraviolet light. Different
denominations can also contain the thread in different positions
to further aid counterfeit detection.
Magnetic Ink (MG):
Some currencies such as Euros and US Dollars feature text
written in magnetic ink.
Size Detection:
Size detection is an important security check as many fraudsters
'bleach' low-value notes and re-print them as higher-value
notes. The paper still retains its other features so can
be difficult to detect with other types of security check.
Size detection therefore provides a safe means of identifying
this type of fraud. There are different types of size-detection
technology some note counting machines will check the height
and thickness of the banknote (DD). Advanced size detection
(3D) will check the height, thickness and length of each
banknote.
Infrared (IR):
Using infrared technology on banknote paper, it is possible
to determine the average density of the paper. When compared
to known densities of specific currencies and note denominations,
it is possible to highlight fake notes using this security
technique.
